Did anyone else catch the episode of "The Doctors" that talked about home birth? Ricki Lake was the guest.
I don't think I can post a link to the whole show, but ya'll are smart cookies and can use the google......

The thing that really got me was towards the end of the segment when they were talking about VBAC.
OF COURSE the OB/GYN had to say "There are huge risks involved........The incidence of uterine rupture is around 1%.....but there are still huge risks involved". In what scientific field is 1% a HUGE risk? And thanks so much for continuing the fear mongering by ending the segment with that!
Is it possible that doctors are scared of VBAC because, for the most part, interventions are more dangerous and less (if at all) recommended for VBAC?
In speaking about C/Sec, they didn't seem to think that you could put a number on how many is too many. I call BS on that :) When the World Health Organization comes out and says NO MORE than 10-15%, anywhere in the world, maybe these docs should take notice!

I've just got my panties in a bunch because I just read "Silent Knife". It's an older book, but there is some really good info that is help-full to counter all those scary baby bursting through your uterus ideas people have about VBAC and the "Oh, c-sections are a fine way to have your baby, totally safe and fulfilling" condescension that has lead to the freakishly high c-section rates in this country.

I really should know better than to watch network TV..........
At least Ricki got to point out that "Well, alot of people feel there is more risk having your baby IN the hospital." and she got to plug her new book which I hope will replace that "What to expect when you're expecting" drivel on the shelves of ladies everywhere.
Actually, I wish we could hand out Ina May's Guide to Childbirth in every OB's office, but that might be trespassing :)
